Tehran – Iran's East Azarbaijan province, in the northwest of Iran, has consolidated its status as one of the country's foremost centers for purebred horse breeding, with more than 2,000 officially identified and registered horses, according to a report.

Authorities have expanded the province's microchip-based horse identification system, a key initiative aimed at preserving the authenticity of valuable bloodlines, improving breed registration and traceability, supporting breeders, and facilitating the participation of locally bred horses in official equestrian competitions, the report carried by the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture said.

The launch of a dedicated horse identification center has simplified registration procedures for equestrian clubs and breeding farms, reducing costs, accelerating services, and providing a stronger institutional foundation for the development of the province's equine industry, it added.

East Azarbaijan's long-term strategy for the sector focuses on conserving valuable genetic resources, advancing selective breeding programs, expanding the national database of purebred horses, and encouraging private investment, measures designed to enhance the province's role as a national center for high-quality horse breeding.
