East Azarbaijan, Iran’s leading almond-producing province
Tabriz – East Azarbaijan, in the northwest of Iran, has become one of country’s major almond-producing regions, with 8,586 hectares under cultivation, including 8,316 hectares of productive orchards and 270 hectares of non-productive land, according to the deputy for Crop Production Improvement at the provincial Agricultural Organization.
The province currently produces around 12,599 tons of almonds annually, with Shabestar, Ajabshir, Osku, Azarshahr, and Tabriz ranking as the top five almond-producing counties, said Sadeq Naderi.
He added, “Almonds are prized for their drought resistance and adaptability to the region’s climate, yielding an average of 1,560 kilograms per hectare. East Azarbaijan ranks seventh nationally in cultivated area and sixth in total production.”
