Date palm pollination covers 20,000 ha across Hormozgan

Hormozgan – Date palm pollination has been completed on 20,000 hectares across southern Hormozgan Province as the region moves toward an anticipated harvest of 200,000 tons of dates this year, a senior horticulture official announced.

Mohammad Reza Sheikhzadeh, director of horticulture at the province's Agricultural Organization, said the use of high-quality pollen at optimal timing significantly improves both fruit quality and yield, directly benefiting farmers' incomes.

With total date cultivation in Hormozgan standing at roughly 38,000 hectares, Sheikhzadeh highlighted leading high-yield varieties, including Piarom, Khasui, Mazafati, Mordasang, Khenizi, Al-Mehtari, and Zahedi.

He forecast that precise execution of technical and agricultural programs - pollination chief among them - will drive production to 200,000 tons this year, representing substantial growth for the strategic crop.

Beyond boosting output, the official noted that these efforts enhance fruit quality and strengthen the competitiveness of Hormozgan dates in both domestic and international markets.
