COMSTECH Summit highlights Iran’s Razi, Pasteur institutes

Islamabad - A high-level COMSTECH meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Islamabad on February 9-10, 2026, to strengthen vaccine production self-sufficiency and expand scientific collaboration among member states.

Attended by the OIC Secretary-General, Pakistan’s Federal Health Minister, and senior delegations, the summit focused on advancing research and development, establishing joint manufacturing frameworks, and enhancing cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Financing mechanisms, including potential support from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), were also reviewed, while Pakistan outlined its strategic needs for sustainable vaccine supply.

Iran drew particular attention through the participation of the Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute and the Pasteur Institute of Iran, recognized as key regional centers for vaccine research and production.

Analysts noted that Iran’s National Vaccine Technology Ecosystem and Vaccine Technology Tower are expected to strengthen its global standing and expand its vaccine diplomacy.

Participants described the institutes’ active engagement as a step toward deeper scientific integration and the development of a coordinated vaccine technology network across the Islamic world.
