Bushehr strategic hub for off-season tomato supply
Bushehr – The southern Bushehr Province has produced one million tons of vegetables and summer crops, with tomatoes leading as the main crop, a local agricultural official announced.
According to Kobra Tavakkoli, Deputy for Plant Production at Bushehr's Agriculture Organization, tomatoes alone account for 660,000 tons grown on 12,000 hectares.
She noted that the province ranks first in Iran for off-season tomato production, playing a critical role in supplying the market during November and December.
Approximately 250,000 tons of produce — including tomatoes, peppers, melons, and dill — are exported annually, Tavakkoli said, emphasizing that the primary goal remains ensuring food security while supporting farmers and sustainable production.
