Mazandaran – Amirabad Port Complex, also referred to locally as Imam Khomeini Port, is set to strengthen its role as a key logistics hub on Iran’s northern coast, the director general of the port said.

 

Speaking at the Iran Grain Conference, Mohammad Ali Mousapour announced that the port’s cargo handling capacity has been increased to 650,000 tons per year, with full readiness to offer this expanded capacity to domestic and international economic operators.

 

He described the development as a major step toward enhancing the port’s logistical performance, improving the efficiency of Iran’s transport network, and supporting the country’s broader economic growth.

 

“This capacity expansion allows us to move larger volumes of cargo with greater efficiency, higher quality, and lower costs,” the official said.

 

Mousapour added that Amirabad Port is fully prepared to make this capacity available to the private sector, helping reduce transportation costs and improve service quality.

 

Mousapour also emphasized the port’s readiness to attract new investments, noting that the government is committed to supporting private investors interested in participating in the port’s development.

 

“If the private sector expresses interest in investing in Amirabad Port, the government is ready to facilitate and support such initiatives through various financial and policy mechanisms,” he said.

 

Strategically located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in Mazandaran province, Behshahr county, the port is situated just 330 kilometers from Tehran and 55 kilometers from Sari, the provincial capital.

 

This advantageous position provides the port with direct access to major urban centers and facilitates its role as a vital conduit for trade between Iran and its northern neighbors, including the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe, Iran’s Port and Maritime Organization (PMO) published on its website.

 

Amirabad Port Complex is a key element of Iran’s northern trade infrastructure, providing Access to a vast consumer market of around 300 million people in the CIS and Eastern Europe.
