Agricultural research boosts shrimp exports in Iran

Tehran – The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Agricultural Research, Education, and Extension Organization has announced a groundbreaking shrimp farming project in Pirqaleh village of Oshnavieh.

This initiative, aimed at both preserving genetic resources and boosting shrimp populations in the Aras River basin, has successfully developed a technical process that can be transferred to the private sector.

Seyed Mojtaba Khayam Nekoui emphasized the export-oriented nature of this project, stating that each kilogram of freshwater shrimp is purchased at $5 and can be sold for two to three times that price after packaging.

“This project not only creates job opportunities in the province but also contributes to the country’s export earnings,” he added.

Highlighting the unique nutritional needs of these freshwater shrimp, Khayam Nekoui revealed that his organization has developed a specialized feed for them. He invited interested individuals to contact the Agricultural Research Institute to acquire the necessary technical knowledge and participate in this promising venture.

By transferring this technology to the private sector, the Iranian government aims to stimulate the country’s shrimp farming industry and strengthen its position in the global seafood market.
