8 percent rise in bony fish harvest from Caspian Sea

Mazandaran - Fishermen in the three northern provinces bordering the Caspian Sea have harvested a total of 3,970 tons of bony fish since the beginning of the fishing season in early October, registering an 8% increase in weight compared to the same period last year, an official said.

The head of Mazandaran Fisheries Department announced an 8% increase in the catch of bony fish in the Caspian Sea since October 6, 2024, reporting that 3,970 tons have been harvested so far.  Qasem Karimzadeh said that the value of the caught fish reached 1,230 billion tomans, reflecting an 11% rise compared to the previous year.  “The output includes Caspian kutum (65%), mullets (30%), and common carp (5%), registering 5%, 10%, and 21% increase compared to the same period last year, respectively,” he said.   The northern province of Mazandaran has the biggest share in Iran’s total annual sea fish harvest.  The harvest season for bony fish in the Caspian Sea begins in mid-October and lasts until April the next year. Some 15 species of bony fish inhabit the Caspian Sea.
