2,250 tons of fish feed exported from south, official says
Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad - The southwestern Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province has exported 2,250 tons of fish feed to international markets since the beginning of the current year, the province’s Director of Fisheries at the Agriculture Organization announced.
Koroush Yazdanpanah said the feed, primarily for cold-water fish, was exported to countries in the Persian Gulf region, including Iraq. The total value of these exports is estimated at 1,100 billion rials.
He highlighted that until 1403 (2024), the province had no local fish feed production units, forcing aquaculture operators to purchase feed from other provinces. “With the establishment of three new production units in 1403, with a combined capacity of 39,000 tons, the province now meets over 70 percent of local demand and generates significant export revenue.”
Yazdanpanah added that eight additional production units were inaugurated during this year’s Government Week, and three more fish farms are expected to become operational during the Ten-Day Fajr (Dawn) ceremonies.
These developments have increased the province’s fish production capacity by 1,000 tons this year, he said.
The official also noted that the upcoming launch of three more cold-water and sturgeon fish production units will raise the province’s total aquaculture capacity to 29,000 tons annually.
