Third-generation scale bugs threaten kiwi orchards, Iran Plant Protection Organization warns

Tehran, Iran – The Plant Protection Organization of Iran has issued a stern warning regarding the third generation of scale insects in kiwi orchards.

According to the organization, September marks the final window to control this pest and prevent fruit contamination.

Akbar Ahangaran, Director-General of the Early Warning and Pest Control Office, emphasized the critical need for immediate action, especially in orchards designated for export.

He explained that based on weather forecasts, the third generation of scale insect nymphs will emerge from their protective covers in early September, leaving a very narrow window for effective management.

Ahangaran urged agricultural experts to conduct daily monitoring of kiwi orchards starting from September to accurately determine the timing of pest control measures in each region. He stressed the importance of timely dissemination of information and follow-up actions to ensure the successful management of this pest.

The official advised orchard owners to closely follow early warning advisories issued by the Plant Protection Organization and to promptly implement control measures recommended by agricultural experts and plant clinics.

He cautioned that any delay in pest control operations could render them ineffective and lead to fruit contamination.
