Tehran to host intl confab to highlight role of rural women in food security

Tehran – An international conference will convene in Tehran on Tuesday to spotlight the critical role of rural and nomadic women in advancing Iran's sustainable development.
Coinciding with the annual International Day of Rural Women on October 15, the conference aims to underscore the invaluable contributions of these women to agricultural, rural, and overall societal progress.
The day's proximity to World Food Day further emphasizes rural women’s significant role in ensuring food production and security.
Iran has a longstanding tradition of celebrating International Day of Rural Women through various initiatives, including conferences, competitions, honoring exemplary rural women, and showcasing their products.
The upcoming conference, hosted by the Agricultural Research, Education, and Extension Organization, will delve into the multifaceted contributions of rural and nomadic women to socio-cultural, economic, agricultural, and environmental development. By highlighting their capabilities and identifying opportunities for rural advancement, the conference seeks to empower these women and foster the growth of Iran's villages.
According to the World Health Organization, rural women account for about 22% of the global population. They play an important role in the health and well-being of their communities.
