Sistan-Baluchestan – Sistan-Baluchestan province, in the southeast of Iran, has begun harvesting and exporting its greenhouse-grown produce to international markets, marking a new phase in agricultural development.

 

According to Alireza Dahmorde, Head of the Sistan-Baluchestan Agriculture Organization, so far 50 tons of eggplants have been exported to Russia in three shipments, with a fourth currently being loaded.

 

“Under a 30-hectare contract farming program in Khash, Mirjaveh, and Sib & Soran counties, crops such as tomatoes, bell peppers, and eggplants are being cultivated. The province’s total greenhouse area has now reached 730 hectares, with production in 2025–2026 expected to rise to 160,000 tons—a 10% increase from last year,” he added.

 

To date, 1,350 tons of greenhouse products have been exported to Kazakhstan, Russia, and Persian Gulf countries. Dahmorde emphasized that greenhouse cultivation enables efficient water use, higher productivity, and year-round harvesting, strengthening the province’s role in global agricultural trade.
