Qom province makes historic first export of rainbow trout to Azerbaijan

Qom – Iran's Qom province, located 125 kilometers south of Tehran, has exported its first-ever shipment of farmed rainbow trout to a foreign country, a senior agricultural official announced.

Mohammad Reza Fallah Ataee, head of the Fisheries Department of Qom's Agricultural Organization, confirmed that a 4.5-ton consignment was loaded and dispatched to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

"This is the first such event in the history of Qom's fisheries," he said. “The trout were raised to meet full export standards, achieving an ideal "salmonized" weight—averaging three kilograms per fish—before successfully passing all required health and quarantine protocols and being released into international markets.”

The official underscored the strategic importance of the move for the province's agricultural economy. "Producing and exporting high-weight trout provides greater economic returns for farmers while significantly enhancing Qom's standing on the national fisheries production map," the official explained.

Fallah Ataee concluded that the entry of Qom's seafood products into the Azerbaijani market represents a major expansion of the province's aquatic supply and consumption chain. "This could serve as a powerful catalyst for attracting new investment in coldwater fish farming and related industries right here in Qom," he said.
