Ahvaz – Khuzestan Province has solidified its position as Iran’s national hub for cut flower production, contributing significantly to both domestic supply and export markets.

 

According to Javad Soltani-Kazemi, head of the Khuzestan Agricultural Organization, the province produces over 170 million stems of flowers and ornamental plants annually, earning a top-tier status in the country’s floriculture industry.

 

“Khuzestan plays a vital role in meeting the floral needs of Iran, with its output extending beyond national borders to target international markets,” he said.

 

The province owes its success to a combination of favorable climate diversity, skilled growers, and the rapid development of modern greenhouse facilities. Khuzestan ranks first in Iran for greenhouse-grown flowers and tuberose, second in rose and gladiolus production, and third in narcissus.

 

The region boasts a rich variety of flowers, including roses, gladiolus, tuberose, narcissus, chrysanthemums, irises, lilies, and lisianthus, as well as numerous indoor plants such as azaleas, geraniums, begonias, and coleus. Nearly 90% of the province’s cut flowers are transported to Tehran, from where premium-quality blooms are distributed to foreign markets.

 

Soltani-Kazemi noted that nine counties, including Dezful, Behbahan, Shush, Baghmalek, and Andimeshk, serve as major production hubs.
