Kerman – Iran has taken practical steps toward securing international recognition for ancient walnut trees estimated to be around 1,500 years old in the southeastern Kerman province.

 

Mohammad Mehdi Boroumandi, Iran’s Deputy Agriculture Minister for Horticultural Affairs, visited the counties of Baft and Rabor on the second day of his trip to the province to inspect walnut orchards and assess the ongoing harvest.

 

During the visit, Boroumandi stressed the importance of preserving valuable walnut genetic resources and personally followed up on efforts to secure international registration for the ancient walnut trees in Bazang village, located in the Gohar district.

 

He also met with walnut growers and representatives of the Agricultural Chamber to hear producers’ concerns and issued instructions aimed at removing obstacles across the walnut production and supply chain.
