Iran’s southwestern province leads production, export of premium almonds
Shahr-e Kord - The head of the Agriculture Organization of the southwestern Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari province has announced the production of one of the world’s most valuable and premium almond varieties, commercially known as “Mamra Almond,” in the province.
Dr. Hossein Bahrami stated that almond orchards in the province span approximately 20,000 hectares, of which 15,000 hectares are mature and fruit-bearing. With this production capacity, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari ranks first in Iran in irrigated almond output.
He noted that the exclusive “Mamaei” almond variety is primarily cultivated in the counties of Ben and Saman, adding that this year’s harvest is projected to reach around 30,000 tons.
Bahrami reported an average yield of two tons per hectare and attributed rising production levels to improved agricultural planning and the expansion of modern irrigation systems.
“The adoption of advanced irrigation methods has enabled growers to reduce water consumption while simultaneously enhancing both the quantity and quality of their produce,” he said, underscoring the province’s growing role in the high-value dried fruit export market.
