Iranian farmer wins global award for innovative agriculture

Ilam — Mahmoud Rahdari, a pioneering farmer from Helilani in Ilam Province, has won the Watsave 2025 Award, securing first place in the farmer category among participants from 106 countries.

He was also Iran’s sole representative at the World Irrigation Council in Malaysia.

Rahdari received the honor for successfully applying advanced irrigation systems and sustainable farming practices that have reduced water consumption by 30 to 60 percent while introducing smart water management solutions. His work has been recognized as a model for balancing productivity with environmental stewardship.

The Watsave Award, organized annually by the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC), celebrates individuals, projects, and organizations that pioneer innovative methods in soil and water conservation. The award recognizes achievements such as modern irrigation, smart technologies, evaporation control, erosion prevention, soil enrichment, and organic farming.

Rahdari’s achievement not only showcases the potential of Iranian innovation in agriculture but also underscores the global importance of sustainable resource management in addressing food security and climate challenges.
