Kerman – Researchers in the southeastern Kerman province have unveiled a new bread wheat variety named "Setareh" (Star), designed for delayed planting in hot, water-scarce regions.

 

Developed by Mohammad Ali Jawaheri, associate professor at Kerman's Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Training Center, the variety (line S-92-19) offers early maturity, strong performance, and high tolerance to drought and late-season heat.

 

"Setareh is an effective choice for managing cultivation in the province's hot and dry areas," he said, citing its water efficiency and resilience. He added that the variety also shows good resistance to yellow rust disease, ensuring more stable yields under harsh climatic conditions.

 

The development is part of a strategic initiative by Iran's Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO) to boost productivity on low-water farms and adapt to challenging climates.
