Iran to establish 5,000 model farms to speed up transfer of modern tech to farmers
Tehran - Iran plans to establish 5,000 model farms across the country by the end of its Seventh Development Plan, a senior agriculture official said, as part of a broader effort to accelerate the transfer of knowledge, innovation, and modern technologies to farmers.
Gholamreza Golmohammadi, Deputy Head of the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), made the remarks at the 39th National Ceremony honoring outstanding figures in the agricultural sector, held in Tehran under the theme “Innovation and Productivity Models for Food Security.”
He said the initiative will be implemented in cooperation with leading and innovative farmers and will focus on participatory research and development projects that bring researchers and farmers together in real production settings.
“Experience has shown that wherever researchers stand alongside farmers, meaningful synergy is created, leading to sustainable growth in the agricultural sector,” he said.
According to Golmohammadi, one of the core objectives of the model farm program is to empower selected top-performing farmers to serve as practical role models for disseminating technical knowledge and improving both the quantitative and qualitative performance of agricultural production nationwide.
The official also highlighted that Iran’s agricultural output has increased by approximately 500 percent since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, despite severe climatic challenges and international sanctions.
He attributed this growth to the effective integration of farmers’ indigenous knowledge, applied research outcomes, and the sustained efforts of farmers, researchers, and agricultural managers.
