Iran targets 20,000 tons of sturgeon meat by 2027

Tehran – The Iranian government aims to produce 20,000 tons of sturgeon meat and 140 tons of caviar annually by the end of its Seventh Development Plan in 2027, according to the head of the Iranian Fisheries Organization (IFO).
We are determined to boost aquaculture and enhance the county’s food security, Hamzeh Rostampour said.
He noted that 20 provinces are currently active in sturgeon meat production, and 12 are engaged in caviar extraction.
Rostampour emphasized the advantages of caviar farming, especially in non-coastal areas. “These include increased access to seafood protein, improved food security, efficient freshwater use, enhanced productivity, diversified aquaculture, and increased farmer incomes.”
