Iran strong wheat harvest boosts domestic supplies

Iran's Ministry of Agriculture announced a successful domestic wheat purchase program, exceeding targets with over 5.6 million tons collected since April.
according to a senior official with the Agriculture Ministry, this marks an 8% increase compared to the same period last year.
The government has already paid nearly half of the $1.647 billion owed to farmers, Sohrab Sohrabi said.
Khuzestan province leads the nation in wheat production, contributing 1.6 million tons. The total harvest is projected to reach between 14.5 and 15.5 million tons by year's end, fulfilling Iran's domestic wheat needs, he said.
This achievement comes on the heels of a 6% increase in wheat production in 2023, placing Iran 14th among global producers according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
