Iran seeking to become food security hub with FAO cooperation

Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Management and Human Resources Development Affairs, Hooshang Mohammadi, said that Iran will become a regional food security hub in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
"In meetings with the FAO Deputy Secretary-General and the Director-General of the Asia and Pacific Integrated Rural Development Center (CIRDAP), it was agreed that based on the preparation of a knowledge-based food security document in our country, the Islamic Republic of Iran can be placed at the center of food security for the countries in the region,” Mohammadi, who is in Bangkok attending the 34th Executive Committee (EC-34) meeting of the Centre for Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), said.
He added, "This proposal was welcomed and it is planned that Iran's request be placed on the agenda of FAO's discussions."
The deputy minister emphasized, "If this happens and FAO provides the necessary support, our country can activate the food security production units of the countries in the region."
Referring to FAO's decision after the appointment of a representative in Iran, Mohammadi said, "After the approval of this event, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will take the necessary measures to invest and transfer technical knowledge and scientific findings."
It is worth noting that the 34th Executive Committee (34-EC) meeting of the Asia and Pacific Integrated Rural Development Center (CIRDAP) is being held in Bangkok, Thailand, with the participation of Ali Kiani-Rad, President of the Agricultural Economics and Rural Development Planning Research Institute in the Executive Committee and Hooshang Mohammadi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Iran in the Governing Council.
