Iran requires national effort to materialize One Billion Trees project

Tehran – The head of the Center for Forests Outside the North of Iran's Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization announced that Iran aims to plant one billion trees by 2030 to meet carbon sequestration targets.

"According to agreements, Iran must sequester 10 to 15 million tons of carbon by 2030," Seyed Hashem Mousavi-Nejad said.

"This is crucial for our country, given its climatic conditions,” he added.

"The first year saw the identification of over five million hectares of suitable land for tree planting," he said.

"With a planting capacity of 400 seedlings per hectare, we initially planned to afforest 2.5 million hectares annually. However, we have doubled this target to accelerate progress."
