Tehran – Iranian agricultural authorities have announced a series of significant developments over the past week, including the introduction of two new drought-resistant wheat cultivars, full absorption of mechanization loans in key provinces, and the unveiling of a commemorative stamp for a national reforestation drive.

 

Iran’s agricultural sector witnessed a range of positive developments in the past week, highlighting progress in crop science, financial efficiency, and environmental initiatives, according to a report carried by the official website of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture.

 

In a move to strengthen national food security, two new wheat varieties—named "Shahou" and "Nila"—were officially unveiled in Kermanshah Province. The new cultivars are expected to boost yields and resilience in one of the country’s major grain-producing regions, the report said.

 

Meanwhile, financial mechanisms supporting agricultural modernization showed strong performance. In Khorasan Razavi Province, 100 percent of available mechanization loan facilities were successfully absorbed, signaling robust farmer demand for advanced equipment. Similarly, Sistan-Baluchestan Province reported 96 percent absorption of "Novipoo" committed credit, specifically allocated for the purchase of livestock inputs.

 

On the biosecurity front, East Azarbaijan Province recorded the supervised movement of over 449,000 tons of agricultural products under plant quarantine controls, underscoring the region’s active role in crop transit and safety monitoring.

 

Poultry production also saw notable activity. Tehran Province produced 30,000 tons of chicken meat over the past year. Additionally, contractual poultry meat production agreements have been signed with 17 broiler farming units, aiming to streamline supply chains and stabilize prices, it said.

 

In a broader environmental and economic push, authorities highlighted efforts to utilize natural resource-compatible economic capacities and expand clean energy development. This strategy seeks to align agricultural growth with sustainable practices.

 

Finally, a special commemorative stamp was unveiled for the national "One Billion Trees" people-based planting plan, reinforcing Iran’s commitment to large-scale reforestation and ecological restoration.
