Iran registers significant growth in wheat production this year, official says
Tehran - The deputy minister for Crop Production at Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture announced that wheat deliveries to purchasing centers in 2025 have nearly doubled compared with 2021.
Speaking at the inaugural National Crop Pattern Conference, Majid Anjafi emphasized that such progress, achieved under harsher drought conditions, reflects improved productivity in the country’s agricultural sector.
He explained that while 4.5 million tons of wheat were delivered to state purchasing centers in 2021, the figure has risen to around 8 million tons this year. Given the ongoing water crisis and the relatively stable area under cultivation, this growth highlights significant efficiency gains.
Looking ahead, Anjafi predicted that by harnessing the potential of rainfed lands and employing advanced methods, wheat production could be doubled from current levels.
He also addressed the country’s water challenges, noting that while 80 billion cubic meters of water had been planned for use this year, only 44 billion cubic meters are currently available due to both climatic conditions and mismanagement. “Despite this mega-crisis, we must continue to meet our commitments,” he stressed.
