Iran honors fishermen on world maritime day
Tehran - The head of Iran’s Fisheries Organization has underscored the vital role of fishermen and aquaculture producers in strengthening the country’s food security, calling for their more active involvement in fisheries development programs.
Speaking at a World Maritime Day ceremony, Deputy Agriculture Minister Hamzeh Rostampour praised the contributions of fishermen and seafarers to national food supply and aquaculture production. He said government institutions must build greater trust with fishing communities and ensure their full participation in future projects and policies.
Rostampour also highlighted the conservation and restoration of marine resources in Iran’s southern waters as a key priority for the organization, describing it as central to long-term sustainability.
During the event, officials recognized the exemplary marine director of Hormozgan Province as well as a veteran researcher from the Iranian Fisheries Science Research Institute for their outstanding contributions to the sector.
