Tehran - Iran and Brazil have agreed to expand cooperation in veterinary services and livestock trade following a meeting between Ali Rafieipour, Deputy Minister and Head of Iran’s Veterinary Organization, and Santiago Irazabal Mourão, Brazil’s Ambassador to Tehran.

 

Talks focused on strengthening collaboration in animal health, quarantine standards, and disease prevention, while also facilitating trade in livestock products and showcasing Iran’s agricultural potential.

 

Rafieipour emphasized Iran’s regional position and the role of veterinary services in safeguarding public health. He said Iran was prepared to share expertise in health monitoring, zoonotic disease control, and quarantine upgrades, noting that technical and scientific cooperation with Brazil could boost mutual trust, open new export markets, and raise international standards for livestock safety.

 

Ambassador Mourão highlighted Brazil’s status as one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of livestock products. He said closer veterinary ties with Iran would benefit both nations and contribute to regional food security and consumer health.

 

The meeting concluded with an agreement to step up joint efforts in veterinary cooperation, expand trade exchanges, and address barriers to bilateral engagement — including measures to speed up visa issuance for Iranian inspectors tasked with monitoring Brazilian slaughterhouses that supply exports to Iran.
