Healthy soil key to meeting sustainable development goals
Tehran – The CEO of the National Water and Soil Company warned that Iran’s soil resources face inherent limitations and growing risks that threaten long-term food security and public health.
Ismaeil Hossein-Zehi noted that Iran’s position within the world’s dry and semi-arid belt - combined with its geological structure and diverse terrain - naturally restricts the country’s soil reserves.
These constraints, he added, have been compounded by more than six decades of unsustainable and improper soil use.
According to Hossein-Zehi, soil is not only the foundation of agricultural production but also a critical factor shaping climate patterns and biodiversity.
He stressed that soil should be regarded as a valuable inheritance for future generations—one that requires urgent and sustained protection.
