First camel tracking system launched in Khuzestan

Shush – A mobile tracking system called "Sarbaniar" has been successfully deployed on camel herds in Shush county, in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan, marking a first for Khuzestan province.

The system uses GPS trackers on camels and a smartphone app for herders, allowing real-time monitoring of herd location during grazing. Restricted zones such as roads, farmlands, and riverbanks can be programmed, with alerts sent to the herder if camels stray into them.

According to Bahareh Taheri Dezfuli of the Khuzestan Agricultural Research Center, the goal is to improve grazing management, reduce livestock losses, and increase productivity.

“The project, launched last year in collaboration with provincial livestock authorities, has been highly successful and well-received by local herders.”

Adopting modern tracking technology can play an effective role in improving camel breeding management, especially during grazing, she added.
