Agriculture ministry concentrating on export-based production, minister says

Iranian Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Ali Nikbakht said his ministry has plans underway to focus on export-based production in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2024).
Addressing senior managers of the ministry in a meeting in Tehran, Nikbakht said, “More than $1.0 billion of agricultural products were exported from the country in the previous Iranian calendar year, showing a 13 and 23 percent hike in weight and value respectively compared to a year earlier.”
Emphasizing the national motto of "Production Jump with the People's Participation," Nikbakht pledged the ministry's efforts to achieve the motto’s goals.
He urged relevant organizations and companies to support exporters with the necessary resources to boost exports further.
Investing in aquaculture and fisheries was also identified as a key opportunity by the minister.
He noted the significant potential of these sectors to contribute to the production jump, while also improving soil and water productivity.
