Varamin, Iran – A groundbreaking 15-hectare hydroponic greenhouse is currently being built in Varamin County, Tehran Province, to cultivate a variety of vegetables, an official said.

According to the public relations office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Reza Farazi, the head of Varamin’s Agriculture Department, announced that at least 3 hectares of this greenhouse are expected to be operational by the end of summer.
 
The total investment for this project and its associated orchards exceeds 700 billion tomans.
 
Addressing the issue of power outages, Farazi emphasized the importance of utilizing solar energy in these greenhouses, stating that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Power have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the use of solar energy, especially for agricultural electric wells.
The director also highlighted the significant progress made in modernizing irrigation systems in the county. Over 20,000 hectares of the total 45,000 hectares of cultivable land in Varamin have been equipped with modern irrigation systems. 
Varamin County is known as the primary producer of meat in Tehran Province, accounting for 40% of the province's total red meat production. With over 2300 livestock units and an average of 284 head of livestock per unit, the county also boasts the largest duckling production facility in the region.

Farmers in Varamin have delivered 34,000 tons of wheat to official procurement centers this year, cultivating a total of 13,000 hectares of wheat.
