‘China’s desertification management a model for strengthening Iran’s natural resource governance’
Tehran - Iran’s Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization highlighted China’s advanced desertification management as a model for enhancing governance and sustainability in Iran.
Hadi Ghasemi, Head of the Technical Committee on Watershed Management, Rangelands, and Desertification, shared insights from his recent educational visit to China, emphasizing the country’s success in combining centralized governance, public participation, and modern technologies to combat desertification.
“China’s model relies on targeted economic incentives, guaranteed product purchases, and significant tax exemptions, supported by continuous monitoring and biweekly evaluations to ensure results. Key measures include drafting comprehensive protection laws for arid areas, offering targeted financial incentives, modernizing irrigation systems, and establishing specialized research centers. A national desert monitoring system and integrated regional planning were highlighted as essential for operational success,” he said.
