Wheat production in 2019 in IRAN
Self-reliance in wheat production
This product is the basis of agriculture
and food security in the country. The share of cultivation in irrigated
agriculture of the country was about 39% and in rainfed agriculture was about
65% in 2013. During this year, 2013, the country's needs have been met by
importing nearly 4 million tons, and wheat self-reliance of the country in 2013
was about 68%.
Development and implementation of a plan to
increase wheat production with the principle of optimizing the area under
cultivation (reducing the area under cultivation by about 400,000 hectares of
irrigated land due to the need for a sustainable wheat cultivation pattern) and
relying on increasing yield per unit area (with employing all technical aspects
of agricultural operations and timely supply of agricultural institutions, such
as suitable seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, etc., since 2016, the country
has reached wheat self-sufficiency and during the last four years (2016-2019)
has been able to maintain and stabilize the country's wheat self-sufficiency.
The main objectives of the plan:
1. Continuation of non-import of wheat, and
supply of wheat required by the country from domestic producers
2. Increasing the percentage of
self-reliance to 104.5% in 2021
3. Increasing the wheat production to 14.65 million tons in 2021.
4. Optimizing the area under wheat
cultivation
5. Improving the living conditions of
farmers in the agricultural sector
6. Increasing productivity and improving
the yield of irrigated wheat to 5038 kg / ha and rainfed to 1493 kg / ha in
2021
Support
Actions:
1. Increasing the coverage level of
certified seeds with a maximum useful life of 8 years
2. Management and control of harmful
factors (weeds, diseases and pests)
3. Improving mechanization in the stages of
planting, holding and harvesting wheat (especially reducing wheat waste)
4. Introducing high potential wheat
cultivars with suitable bakery quality, and tolerant to environmental stresses,
especially dehydration
5. Supply in time of macro and micro
fertilizers in terms of quantity and quality and implementation of a balanced
nutrition program
6. Transfer of applied research findings to
irrigated and rainfed wheat fields
7. Development of international cooperation
