Watershed management and aquifer management in IRAN
Watershed management and aquifer management: The new
approach of the Supreme Urban Planning Council in the management of urban
floods in Iran
Abolghasem Hosseinpour, Director General of the Flood,
Rangelands and Watershed Management Organization of the Country, change in
attitude, from collecting and disposing of surface water in cities to the
management of urban floods with a preventive approach at the watershed level,
is considered as an example of flood management at the source as a scientific
and economic solution.
The Director General of Flood Control of Forst Organization
added: implementation of watershed management and aquifer management projects
in the watershed overlooking the cities under the leadership of the Ministry of
Jihad-Agriculture, and the participation of municipalities is among the
approvals of the Supreme Council of Urban Planning and Architecture with the
aim of controlling floods and sediment entering cities.
Hossein-Pour told that we are hopeful that: Due to lack of
urban development in high-risk and flooded areas, preservation of natural areas
around cities (including forests and pastures, green protection belts, forest
parks and watershed management areas), prevention of excessive expansion of
urban insulation areas, and elimination of runoff absorption areas in cities
and villages by observing the principles of watershed management and flood
watershed considerations in urban development, we see construction of
permeable, resilient and safe cities against the risk of flooding.
