The need to use green water to produce more rice and
rapeseed in the northern provinces of the country

 

Ali Morad Akbair stated that there are 1.6 million hectares
of agricultural lands in three provinces of Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan, of
which about 500,000 hectares are paddy fields, of which 15,000 hectares are in
Golestan province and the rest in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces.

He them mentioned: About 10 billion cubic meters of green
water (water from rainfall) enters the Caspian Sea from the northern provinces,
which by carrying out programs such as reconstruction and rehabilitation in
some parts of dam development, one billion cubic meters of water can be provided
to supply the required water for rice in the first and second crops and
rapeseed cultivation as the third crop.

The Deputy Minister of Water and Soil of the Ministry of
Jihad-Agriculture also said: Only the northern regions of the country due to
the existence of green water resources (rain) can develop rapeseed cultivation,
which in the form of a comprehensive management plan to create water and soil
infrastructure in the north of the country, can be compensated in the first
rice cultivation by supplying water through dams and water storage systems.

He then added that: with the implementation of this plan, a
suitable substrate will be provided for the second crop of rice and the third
crop of rapeseed.

Akbari also mentioned that: By carrying out this plan, if
the project reaches the required stability and outcomes, the amount of rice
production will increase from 800 thousand to one million tons after a few
years, and the amount of rapeseed production will increase at least 700 to 850
thousand tons from the rainfall area.
