Tehran, Manila explore ways to boost ties in agricultural
sector
Senior officials from Iran and the Philippines called for
the expansion of mutual ties between the two nations in the sector of
agriculture.
In a recent meeting held in Tehran, Mojtaba Khayam Nekouei,
the head of Iran’s Agricultural Research Education and Extention Organization,
and the Philippines’ Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Special
Concerns, BARMM, and Infrastructure Engr. Zamzamin Ampatuan signed a memorandum
of understanding (MoU) and stressed the necessity of deepening economic and
agricultural cooperation between the two nations.
“The Philippines is the eights
largest producer of rice in the world. We can share our knowledge and
experience,” Khayam Nekouei said.
He further pointed to the production of corn, coffee,
sugarcane and tropical fruits such as bananas, pineapples, mangoes and the like
in the Philippines and said, “Both nations have the potential to develop their
ties in various fields, fishery in particular”.
Ampatuan, for his part, pointed to the age-old ties between
Tehran and Manila and called for the further expansion of them.
“Iran’s quality apples can be
exported to the Philippines,” he said.
