Strengthening vegetation is an important factor in reducing
flooding
Abolghasem Hosseinpour congratulated the week of natural
resources and watershed management and the National Tree Planting Day, and
stated: Strengthening vegetation is the main goal and essence of all natural
resource projects, which are targeted in different ways in the form of
different projects, including reforestation, rehabilitation of rangeland,
revival of desert, as well as biological operations are targeted in the form of
watershed management and aquifer management at the watershed level.
He described the vegetation as water and soil conservation
soldiers, and added: As a living barrier, the plant resists the flow of runoff
and with increasing rainfall and flooding into the ground, and there will be
significant reduction in the volume and intensity of floods compared to similar
lands without vegetation.
The director general of the Flood Control Office of the
Forests Organization called the year 2019, despite all its sad events, the year
of floods due to the occurrence of numerous destructive floods, and also
mentioned that: Due to the conditions of climate change and the intensification
of floods, the issue of vegetation should be addressed more than before.
He told: Reinforcement of vegetation is one of the
non-structural methods of flood management in watersheds, which is of special
importance in the framework of flood risk management goals due to the
preventive role of vegetation in reducing flood.
