Tehran – The southern city of Shiraz in Fars province exported 1.6 million cut rose stems to regional markets during the Iranian year 1404 (March 2025–March 2026), with Iraq, Armenia and Turkmenistan emerging as its leading export destinations, according to a local agricultural official.

 

Mohammad Mirzaei, head of the Shiraz Agricultural Department, said the county produces around 16.3 million rose stems annually from 12.9 hectares of greenhouse cultivation, with nearly 90% of output sold in the domestic market.

 

He added that Shiraz is home to 23.3 hectares of ornamental flower and plant greenhouses, producing approximately 19 million flowers and potted plants each year, making it the leading producer in Fars province.

 

Mirzaei said 120 professional growers are active in the county's ornamental horticulture sector, noting that Shiraz roses have earned a strong reputation in domestic and international markets for their quality and varietal diversity.

 

“The province's principal export varieties include Samurai, Freedom, Angel, Avalanche, Hermosa, Dolce Vita and Polar Star, which are favored for their appearance, vase life and strong market demand.”

 

He said expanding greenhouse production, boosting productivity, creating sustainable employment and increasing export earnings remain key priorities. Plans are also underway to expand exports, diversify destination markets and provide greater support for growers.
