Research on different types of sugar plants by Iran Sugar
Beet Seed Breeding Research Institute

The deputy director of planning for the Sugar Beet Seed
Breeding Research Institute said: The strategic plan, which is actually the
roadmap of this research institute, will be implemented in a period of 10
years, according to the needs and internal capabilities.

Saeed Sadegh-zadeh stated that the 3rd strategic plan of the
Sugar Beet Seed Breeding and Production Research Institute has been developed
in the form of 11 bases, and mentioned that: Modification of disease resistant
cultivars, autumn cultivation, sugar beet cultivation, introduction of fodder
beet cultivars and research on other sweeteners are among these bases.

 He also told: Our
research scope will expand from sugar beet to other sweeteners for cultivation
in the country. Sadeghzadeh, noting that at present, the consumed sugar is
supplied from sugar beet and sugarcane, acknowledged that research on other
sweeteners such as stevia and sweet sorghum is on the institute's agenda.
