New wheat planting pattern promises higher yields in Qazvin

Qazvin - The Director of Crop Production at the Qazvin Provincial Agriculture Organization has announced that the adoption of a new wheat planting pattern - three rows on raised beds - will significantly boost crop yields while reducing pressure on water and soil resources in the northwestern city.

Hassan Jalilvand said the modern cultivation method, promoted by provincial agricultural authorities, represents a major advancement in wheat farming in Qazvin.

“Under this approach, wheat yields are expected to increase by 1,000 to 2,000 kilograms per hectare.”

He explained that the new planting pattern offers a range of benefits, including reduced soil compaction, improved plant nutrition, lower seed consumption, enhanced light absorption, and a decrease in fungal diseases.

Jalilvand added that the method also facilitates irrigation, reduces soil erosion, allows easier movement of farm machinery and labor, and improves plant establishment, leading to more spikes and grains per spike.

Emphasizing its long-term impact, he said the technique is a critical step toward conserving water and soil resources for future generations, while enabling farmers to achieve sustainable and higher productivity in their fields.
