Natural- and hand planted forests
area reached 14.3 million hectares in Iran

According to the information
centre of the ministry of Jihad-Agriculture, quoted by IRNA, Kamran
Pour-Moghaddam, Head of the supreme council of forests, rangeland and watershed
management organization of forests and rangelands and watershed management of
the country, on the occasion of Natural Resources and Watershed Week, said
that: According to the latest statistics of vegetation and forest cover maps,
there are currently 14.3 million hectares of forests (natural and hand-planted)
in the country, which scattered throughout the country from north to south and
east to west.

He, after stating that “these
forests are spread in four vegetation areas in the country” added that: There
are about 2 million hectares of forests in the Hyrcani area in the north of the
country (Caspian forests) and the extent of Zagros forests in the west of the
country is about 6 million hectares.

He then stated that: in the
central and eastern parts of Iran, the Iranian and Turanian forests cover an
area of ​​4 million hectares, and added that: The area of ​​forests in the
Arasbaran area is also estimated to be around 160,000 hectares.

About the forests of the Persian
Gulf and the Oman Sea, he said: These forests are affected by the climate of
the region in the Persian Gulf coast and the Oman Sea and cover about 2 million
hectares of those areas.

He finally mentioned that: We
must also make good use of public participation in forest conservation, and we
made various agreements between the Organization of Forests with other agencies
within the framework of the National Plan of Green Movement.
