More irrigation systems needed to boost productivity, Bushehr governor says
Bushehr - The governor of the southern Bushehr Province has called for the rapid completion of the modern irrigation project for date palm plantations, emphasizing the need to allocate sufficient funding.
In a meeting with the Deputy Minister for Water and Soil at the Ministry of Agriculture, the governor said modern irrigation systems are critical to ensuring sustainable water resources, increasing efficiency, and boosting productivity across the province’s date sector.
Bushehr ranks third nationwide in date production but leads the country in exports, with more than 30% of its 180,000 tons of annual date output shipped to international markets. The province also holds a top national position in date packaging and cold storage infrastructure.
The official noted that completing the irrigation project would help stabilize production, enhance date quality, and further strengthen Bushehr’s standing in global date markets.
