Management
of 70% of flood damage with watershed management operations in Iran

The director
general of the watershed management and aquifer management office of the
Forests, Rangelands and Watershed Management Organization said:

29 provinces
of the country, especially the southern provinces, have been affected by the
torrential rains of recent days, and in these provinces, all watershed and
aquifer structures were dewatered, which has brought happiness to the people.

Jazi also added: Watershed and aquifer structures reduce the rate of flood and
its destruction and water after dewatering gradually leaves these structures
and enters the ecosystem and part of it by increasing the flow of canals,
springs and wells in agriculture and also for drinking water. He described
watershed management as a low-cost way to control and manage floods, and added:
Our assessments and estimates of the 2019 flood show that watershed management
and aquifer management managed at least 70% of the flood damage.

He also
mentioned the reduction of soil erosion, water infiltration in the ground and
water supply of aqueducts, wells and springs, as other advantages of watershed
management and aquifer management.
