Tehran – Iran's northeastern Khorasan Razavi province is expected to triple its caviar production by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (1405), driven by the expansion of sturgeon farming and the adoption of modern aquaculture technologies, a provincial official said.

 

Mohsen Barkhordar, Director of Fisheries and Aquatic Affairs at the Khorasan Razavi Agricultural Organization, said caviar output has already increased threefold compared with the same period last year, attributing the growth to improved planning and producers' efforts.

 

He said sturgeon farming, particularly through water-efficient recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), plays a vital role in strengthening food security, generating export revenue, and enhancing the resilience of Iran's protein supply chain.

 

Barkhordar added that the industry's expansion, supported by local expertise and regional capacities, is helping Khorasan Razavi move toward greater self-sufficiency while diversifying the country's high-value protein production.
