Tehran – Iran's export earnings from horticultural and greenhouse products have surged from $2.9 billion to $4.3 billion since the start of the current administration, announced Mohammad Mehdi Boroumandi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

 

According to Boroumandi, who also serves as head of the ministry's horticulture department, total domestic horticultural production rose from 24.7 million to 26.9 million tons during the same period.

 

He underscored progress in tropical fruit development, with banana cultivation area expanding from 12,400 to 14,200 hectares and output climbing from 23,000 to 36,100 tons—with expectations of further growth to 44,000 tons.

 

“Greenhouse farming also witnessed robust expansion, adding 600 hectares and boosting production from 3.2 million to 3.9 million tons.”

 

Boroumandi highlighted enhanced international cooperation with the FAO and other partners, delivering notable successes in saffron, pistachio, and date exports.

 

Joint FAO projects have advanced, while long-standing dossiers, including tea, have been resolved. Overall, production momentum across the sector continues to accelerate.
