Tehran – Iran's southern Bushehr province is preparing to significantly expand its marine aquaculture sector with the construction of a new marine fish hatchery and nursery center expected to produce 5 million fingerlings annually, provincial fisheries officials announced.

Aqil Amini, Director General of Bushehr Fisheries, said the facility is being built alongside an existing shrimp hatchery, enabling it to leverage established infrastructure while completing the province's aquatic production value chain.

“The center will maintain broodstock of commercially valuable marine fish species and, upon completion, will undertake the breeding, hatching, and nursery rearing of marine fingerlings to supply the growing cage aquaculture industry.”

He noted that securing a stable supply of high-quality, domestically produced fingerlings has long been one of the main challenges facing investors in marine cage farming. The new facility is expected to reduce dependence on supplies from other provinces, improve production efficiency, and support the sustainable expansion of Iran's offshore aquaculture sector.

Once operational, the center is projected to produce 5 million marine fingerlings each year, helping increase seafood production, create employment opportunities, strengthen Bushehr's fisheries industry, and advance Iran's strategy for developing a sustainable marine-based economy, Amini said.
