Iranian town boosts
date exports, targeting 16,000 tons by year end
Jahrom, a town in Iran's
Fars province, is gearing up for a significant surge in date exports, aiming to
ship 16,000 tons of the sweet fruit to international markets by the end of the
Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2024).
Hassan Zamani, director
of Jahrom's Agricultural Department, announced this ambitious target,
highlighting that over 6,000 tons of dates have already been exported since
October. Popular varieties like Shahani, Zahedi, Mazafati, and Piarom are
leading the charge, finding eager buyers in Asia and Europe.
"Exports are being
shipped through Shahid Rajaei and Shahid Bahonar ports after rigorous customs
checks and disinfection procedures," Zamani explained. India, Malaysia,
Oman, the UAE, European countries, and members of the Eurasian Economic Union
are among the primary destinations for Jahrom's dates.
This projected export
boom signifies a remarkable increase for Jahrom. With several months remaining
in the year, the town is well on its way to achieving its ambitious date export
target, potentially solidifying its position as a key player in the global date
market.
