Tehran – Iranian researchers have developed a technology that converts sugarcane harvesting residues into livestock feed, offering a sustainable solution to reduce agricultural waste and support food security.

The innovation, titled “Production of Livestock Feed Silage from Sugarcane Residues,” was developed by Afrouz Sharifi of the Khuzestan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center and has received official certification from the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO).

She said Khuzestan Province, with about 127,000 hectares under sugarcane cultivation, generates large volumes of plant residues each year that can be transformed into valuable animal feed.

“The technology is expected to help lower feed costs, improve resource efficiency, create added value in the sugarcane industry, and promote sustainable agriculture and food security.”
