Iran working with FAO, US on major soil project
Iran's Soil and Water Research Institute (SWRI), FAO's
Global Soil Laboratories Network and United States Department of Agriculture
are working on a project titled “Comparison of Equivalent Calcium Carbonate
Measurement Methods in Calcareous Soils”.
The laboratory department of SWRI is actively involved in
this project and has played a significant role in this regard by developing
instructions (SOP) for the analysis of equivalent calcium carbonate and
revising the instructions for measuring pH and available boron in several
meetings.
A new effective collaboration with the US has also been
formed within the framework of the Global Soil Laboratories Network platform,
and a joint project has been defined with the aim of evaluating the methods of
measuring inorganic and organic carbon in calcareous soils.
The Global Soil Laboratories Network (GLOSOLAN) was
established by FAO in 2017 in order to coordinate soil analysis methods and
revised analysis methods with the participation of research centers in different
countries around the world.
The development of advanced and non-destructive methods for
soil analysis is one of the important achievements of this joint cooperation.
This cooperation has continued in different scales and its results will be published
in the near future.
