Iran will achieve the third rank of sturgeon meat production
in the world
Iran will be ranked second or third in sturgeon production
within the next four years. Naser Karami-Rad mentioned that: According to the
FAO, in 2019, Iran ranked first in the production of farmed caviar, beluga or
elephant fish, which is the most valuable breed of caviar in the world. He then
added: China currently ranks 1st in the production of farmed caviar in the
world.
Karam-Rad has also
mentioned: The production of farmed caviar and sturgeon meat was 12 tons and
more than 3500 tons, respectively, in the last year.
The Director General of the Office for Reconstruction and
Protection of Aquatic Genetic Resources of the Fisheries Organization of Iran
pointed out that last year, according to Iranian customs statistics, more than
4 tons of farmed caviar and over one thousand tons of sturgeon meat worth over
$ 16 million were exported from the country.
He also added that: Iranian farmed caviar was mainly
exported to 24 countries last year in Asia, Europe, the United States and the
Middle East.
